Anima
Discarded pruned birch tree branches, paper string, 120x300x120cm.
2024.
'Anima' is an installation that reinvigorates discarded, pruned birch branches found at the Christmas tree recycling point in Hilly Fields, Brockley, London. Birches are pioneer trees that readily colonise open ground and prepare it for other species, and according to Celtic mythology they are considered trees of beginnings, renewal or growth. Hanging from the ceiling on paper thread, the branches are suspended in a temporary form of a birch tree - a state that is not sustainable and may come to an end at any point.
